about

Empowering lives through reading is my life's passion!

self wedding pic.jpg

I am a retired reading teacher with 28 years of classroom experience, having taught Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and middle school students. For a decade, I specialized in Special Education, supporting students with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, and behavioral challenges. I was honored to be recognized as a regional finalist for Teacher of the Year—a reflection of my deep commitment to student growth and literacy.

Even after retirement from the classroom, my passion for helping children read never faded. I’ve spent the last thirteen years working as a reading coach with a national educational publishing company, equipping teachers across the country with the tools and strategies they need to inspire young readers. My vision has always been to empower educators to pass along the lifelong gift of reading, particularly to those who struggle the most.

I’ve also volunteered at a private school serving students with Dyslexia and ADHD, continuing my hands-on involvement with learners who benefit from specialized support. My mission—to help all children and teens become confident, capable, and enthusiastic readers—has guided every chapter of my professional life and continues to drive me today.

I founded Path to Literacy to give the gift of reading to children and teens. My promise is to cultivate a love for reading and build the confidence your child or teenager needs to succeed. With decades of classroom expertise, cutting-edge technology, and supplemental practice, I offer a comprehensive, connected approach to reading that leads to real, lasting success.

That’s the power of Path to Literacy—where teaching and learning come together to empower every reader.

Lily's Journey

Lily’s Reading Journey

Lily once struggled with reading. The words on the page felt like a confusing puzzle, and reading aloud caused her anxiety. Concerned about her well-being and eager to help, her parents discovered Path to Literacy. At Path to Literacy, we took the time to truly understand Lily’s unique needs through an evidence-based assessment, carefully identifying her strengths and challenges. This personalized approach allowed us to unlock her full potential.

With a focus on one-on-one tutoring tailored to each child or teen, Path to Literacy ensures that every learner receives the support they need. Today, Lily not only enjoys reading but is thriving in school—her confidence and academic success have soared.

Reading Program

My goal is to help students not only become better readers—but to truly LOVE reading!

 📚

All lessons are live online. Students will need a stable internet connection and access to a computer, laptop, or tablet. Please note: Chromebooks and cell phones are not recommended, as they do not support the tools required for effective tutoring. To ensure the best learning environment, students should be in a quiet room, free from distractions. Headphones are highly recommended, along with a pen and paper.

My reading program begins with an assessment designed to identify each student's areas of strength and pinpoint specific gaps. This allows for personalized instruction tailored to the needs of the individual learner.  Once I identify the gaps, I apply the Five Pillars of Reading to their needs. Struggling readers benefit from frequent lessons and consistent practice. Depending on the student's age and needs, sessions may be scheduled 2 to 3 times per week for 30 to 60 minutes each. Progress will be evaluated after six weeks.

Unlocking the Secret Code of Reading: A Five-Pillar Approach

1.Phonemic Awareness- The ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds within spoken words.

2. Phonics-Students learn to connect sounds to letters or groups of letters.

3. Fluency- The backbone to comprehension involves reading with appropriate accuracy, rate, expression (intonation), phrasing, and pausing.

4. Vocabulary- It’s essential that students understand the meaning of words to comprehend what they read.

5. Comprehension- The process of making meaning of text by implementing key Reading Strategies that help students think critically and interact meaningfully with texts. Additionally, I will align books that the student is exploring in class.

Let's build strong readers—one step at a time!
